I just paid money for a subscription and I was surprised this site reported several properties in pre-foreclosure just to find that not only were these properties listed for sale, but they were already in contract to be sold. Very surprising to see the out dated data.

Thanks for your comments. Please remember that RealtyTrac is not tracking whether a property is listed for sale but whether a property is in foreclosure or not. A home could be listed for sale and even be in contract to be sold and still be in foreclosure. The property will not come out of foreclosure until the property sale has closed.

That said, I totally understand the frustration of finding a property you are interested in only to find that it is not available to purchase (although another thing to keep in mind is that it's not uncommon for pending offers to fall through so it may be worth it to keep tabs on the property even after it has a pending contract).

A couple tips to help you be more successful when searching for properties on RealtyTrac:

1. Sort the search results by entered date, with most recent first, so that you are not looking at properties that have been in foreclosure for a long time, but are more recently in foreclosure. Those will be more likely to still available to pursue and possibly purchase.

2. Use the Foreclosure-MLS Match fo identify foreclosure properties that are listed for sale. This can be done from the search results by clicking on the "Status" column. See video below on how the Foreclosure-MLS Match works.
