The information provided by RealtyTrac on homes for auction is totally mis-leading - the starting bid is never correct and is not even close. Is there another service provider who provides more accurate information?

Shari,

Thanks for your feedback. We strive to get the most accurate an up-to-date info on the foreclosure auctions, including the opening bid. As you probably know, however, the trustee can change the opening bid at the last minute so this is always subject to change.

Some quick advice on this is to also look at the loan amount as another barometer of what the bank will want to recover at the auction. You can find the loan amount usually under the "Loans & History" tab on the property details page or by looking at the original Notice of Default usually listed under the "History of Notices" section on the property details page.

I would like to dig into this a little further for you, and to do that it would help to know where you are searching (Salt Lake City or other locations in Utah or elsewhere?) and even a few specific properties you've looked at if possible.

You can reply with that information here or email me at darenb@realtytrac.com
