We are buying a property in Jersey City which is a legal 1 family as per the jersey City Zoning and tax records , This is old house about 70 years and rhe Ground level unit is separate from the main unit and is not connected - The ground level unit ( the basement ) has its own entrance Mortgage companies are not willing to appraise the square footage of the ground level and want this to be converted to a 2 family or finance only the square footage of the top level. Legally this is a SF - Is there any way to provide documentation to the Mortgage company so that they can count this as a SF. How can we counter this issue ?
