Thanks for your question. Yes, that is a cumulative number of all properties in some stage of foreclosure. There is no timeframe for that; even if the property entered foreclosure a year ago or more. As long as it is still in the foreclosure process, it is still included in that number at the top of...

We're on track to see more than 3 million properties with foreclosure filings and more than 1 million bank repossessions (REOs) in 2010, according to this video with Rick Sharga, Senior Vice President of RealtyTrac.

Based on RealtyTrac data, since December 2007 (the official start of the recession) and through June 2010 there have been a total of 2.36 million U.S. properties repossessed by lenders through foreclosure (REO). In addition there have been 3.48 million default notices and 3.46 million scheduled foreclosure...

Freddie Mac is under the gun to remove non-performing property from its rolls. The GSE has lost $84.4 billion since mid-2008 and has recently been de-listed from the New York Stock Exchange. Freddie Mac has resolved to relieve itself of non-performing property any way it can, including stepping up its...

Interesting question. For at least the short term it's bad for an area to have a high foreclosure rate because it indicates home prices will take longer to recover and start appreciating and it could mean there will be more homes that are unkempt or even in disrepair, bringing down the overall quality...

Maria, The best place to go to find this is the Trend Center on RealtyTrac. Specifically for the zip code you mentioned you can go to the following link: http://www.realtytrac.com/TrendCenter/default.aspx?address=08901 Below is the screenshot of that page. You can get this same information for other...

RealtyTrac just released its foreclosure market report for January , and it shows a similar pattern to a year ago: a 10 percent decrease in overall foreclosure activity after a jump in December. The numbers won't be down for long if we see the 2009 foreclosure trend repeated for the rest of the year...

The RealtyTrac Q4 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report shows that 0.68 percent of all U.S. housing units received a foreclosure notice of some kind (default, scheduled auction or bank repossession/REO) in the fourth quarter. That's one in every 147 housing units.

Although RealtyTrac data does cover counties that account for more than 92 percent of the total U.S. population, there are some counties with no data coverage. I would suggest that in most of these non-covered counties, there is a very small number of foreclosures happening, but you may be able to find...

I understand that RealtyTrac does not collect data and report foreclosure information for many rural areas. Do you have recommendations as to how we real estate professionals realtors and appraisers) in these rural areas can get this data, especially as relates to better informing our lender clients...

The short answer is yes. We do what's called a linear regression to calculate whether foreclosure filings are trending higher or lower over the most recent six-month period. If higher we indicate the trend is rising, if lower we indicate the trend is falling.

RealtyTrac is projecting around 3.9 million properties will receive foreclosure filings in 2010, up from somewhere around 3 million this year (that is also a projection) and 2.3 million in 2008. We believe the numbers will peak in 2010, but that doesn't mean we'll see a quick drop off in the...

You can get the 2008 and 2007 rate for all these states by looking in the state table included at the bottom of the 2008 Year-End foreclosure report press release and the 2007 Year-End foreclosure report press release , both issued by RealtyTrac. RealtyTrac has not yet released year-end data for 2009...

RealtyTrac has foreclosure rates back to 2006. You can contact the data sales department at 949-502-8300 x158 or at http://www.realtytrac.com/dataproductcenter/. I don't believe ForeclosureRadar has been tracking stats that long, and they only have stats for California not the entire country. As...
